Semmy Stahlhammer Short version Semmy Stahlhammer is First Concertmaster of the Stockholm
Medium long version Swedish born violinist Semmy Stahlhammer has performed to great critical acclaim in America, Asia, Australia and Europe. He is First Concertmaster at the Stockholm Royal Opera and a faculty member at the Stockholm Royal Music College. His CD anthology, Swedish Turn of the Century, was chosen as “records of the year 2000” by Sweden’s largest newspaper Dagens Nyheter. Mr. Stahlhammer is artistic director of the music festival in San Giovanni D’Asso in Tuscany, Italy, and was founder and director of “Chamber Music at the Grand Hotel” and “Chamber Music in the Parks” in Stockholm. Other collaborations include concerts with such known musicians as Jaime Laredo, Salvatore Accardo, Lynn Harrell and singers from the Stockholm Royal Opera. Stahlhammer received his Bachelor Degree of Music from the Curtis Institute of Music, his Master of Music degree from Kent State University, a Soloist Diploma from the Stockholm Royal Music College and has also studied at the Juilliard School. He also performs with “The Stahlhammer Klezmer Band”. In his workshop in Stockholm he restores old violins and cellos and has worked on instruments by Stradivarius and Guarnerius. He is author of Codename Barber, a book about the World War II, published by Albert Bonnier, 2007 and translated into English 2010.. |

I sin egen violinateljé på Norr Mälarstrand i Stockholm restaurerar och reparerar han stråkinstrument. Hans bok Kodnamn Frisör är utgiven på Albert Bonniers förlag. With more than fifty violin concerti in his repertoire, he appears on more than 20 CD’s. His four CD box, Swedish Turn of the Century, was chosen as “records of the year 2000” by the largest Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter. In his workshop in Stockholm he restores old violins and cellos and has worked on instruments by Stradivarius and Guarnerius. Known for a wide diversity of creative endeavours, Mr. Stahlhammer has appeared as musician and actor at the Stockholm Royal Drama Theatre (Dramaten). He is also a founding member of the Kinor Ensemble, a unique group that incorporates Instrumentalists and singers from the Stockholm Royal Opera, dancers from the Swedish Royal Ballet, and actors. The Kinor Ensemble brings to life and interprets ancient stories in music theatre form and gives shorter presentations of contrasting temperament and atmosphere. Other collaborations include concerts with such known musicians as Jaime Laredo, Salvatore Accardo, Lynn Harrell, Marcy Rosen, Rita Reichman and Singers from the Stockholm Royal Opera. His teachers have included Isidore Cohen, Ivan Galamian, Felix Galimir, Josef Gingold, Szymon Goldberg, Mieczyslav Horszowski, Louis Krasner, Jaime Laredo, Nathan Milstein, Oscar Schumsky, Josef Silverstein, Isaac Stern, Henryk Szeryng, Karen Tuttle, Efrem Zimbalist, and members of the Budapest, Guarneri and Juilliard String Quartets.
